Mumbai In view of smallpox infection in the state, the Maharashtra government has directed to take all necessary measures immediately and to take precautions and constitute a task force to keep the infection under control. State Public Health Minister Prof. Tanaji Sawant also directed to set up a district-wise task force in a virtual meeting on Friday. On this occasion, through the Health Department, information about the measures being taken in urban and rural areas across the state was taken.

Prof. Sawant said that more attention should be paid to this in view of the increasing cases of measles among children in the age group of six months to five years. Survey should be done immediately by forming separate teams from the health department. District-wise action forces should be activated in view of smallpox outbreak. He said that the doses of Vitamin ‘A’ MR1 and MR2 should be given in areas where measles infection is high. All positions should be reviewed daily. He also gave instructions like isolation to the children undergoing treatment, information about malnourished children.

He said that public awareness should be spread through various religious leaders, NGOs, teachers, political representatives to create awareness about vaccination. Principal Secretary of Public Health Department Sanjay Khandare, Additional Commissioner of Mumbai Municipal Corporation Dr. Sanjeev Kumar and all concerned officers were present in the meeting.
